Metabolic Selection for Cardiomyocyte Purification
Source Tohyama et al. · Department of Cardiology, Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan
Abstract
Tohyama et al. discovered that cardiomyocytes uniquely metabolize lactate under glucose-free conditions, enabling a simple metabolic selection strategy that achieves >99% cardiomyocyte purity. This non-genetic purification method has become a standard tool for generating transplantation-grade cardiomyocytes for both research and clinical applications.
