Epicardial Cells from Human Pluripotent Stem Cells
Source Iyer et al. · Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, Stanford University, Stanford, USA
Abstract
Iyer et al. developed an efficient protocol for generating epicardial cells from human iPSCs through Wnt signaling reactivation at the cardiac mesoderm stage. These epicardial cells express WT1/TBX18, undergo epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition to produce smooth muscle and fibroblasts, and provide paracrine support for cardiomyocyte maturation in co-culture systems.
