Abstract

Hofbauer et al. demonstrated that self-organizing cardioids recapitulate coronary-like vasculature development through epicardial EMT. Epicardial cells within the cardioid undergo epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and differentiate into coronary-like endothelial cells, providing the first human model of intrinsic coronary vessel development in an organoid context.
