Heart-Liver Assembloid for Cardio-Hepatic Drug Interaction
Source Skardal et al. · Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Winston-Salem, USA · 10.1038/s41598-017-08879-x
Abstract
Skardal et al. developed a microfluidically linked heart-liver assembloid system demonstrating hepatic metabolism-dependent cardiotoxicity. The liver module converts pro-drugs to active metabolites that affect the cardiac module, revealing drug interactions invisible in single-organ culture and supporting systems-level pharmacology assessment.
