Abstract

Skardal et al. developed a microfluidically linked heart-liver assembloid system demonstrating hepatic metabolism-dependent cardiotoxicity. The liver module converts pro-drugs to active metabolites that affect the cardiac module, revealing drug interactions invisible in single-organ culture and supporting systems-level pharmacology assessment.
