Heart-Brain Assembloid for Autonomic Cardiac Regulation
Source Xiang et al. · Department of Biomedical Engineering, Duke University, Durham, USA · 10.1016/j.stem.2020.06.004
Abstract
Xiang et al. generated cardiac-sympathetic neuron assembloids where iPSC-derived sympathetic neurons form functional contacts with cardiomyocytes. Sympathetic innervation drives norepinephrine-mediated chronotropy antagonized by β-blockers, creating the first human model of autonomic cardiac regulation for drug testing and innervation studies.
